শিল্পীর জীবনের প্রথম স্কেচখাতা। সময়পর্ব ১৯৫২। সবেমাত্র আর্ট কলেজে শিল্পশিক্ষার্থী হিসেবে প্রবেশ করেছেন তিনি। এই খাতা তাঁর চলার পথে পথে নিসর্গকে যে দেখা, সেই দেখার জার্নাল। তারপর কেটে গেছে সত্তর বছরেরও বেশি সময়। আজ শিল্পী মনে করেন, ‘যা দেখি তা আঁকি না, যা আঁকি তাই দেখি’। আর, এই খাতাটি হল শিল্পীর সেই ভৈরবকাল, যখন এই প্রকৃতির ছন্দতে তিনি যা দেখছেন সেই দেখাকেই ধরেছেন রেখায় রঙে। বস্তুত, কেবলমাত্র গণেশ হালুইয়ের শিল্পজীবনেই নয়, এই স্কেচখাতা ভারতীয় শিল্পকলার ইতিহাসের এক অত্যন্ত জরুরি সম্পদ।

This is the very first sketchbook of the artist. The time- period was 1952. It was the time when he had just taken admission in the Art College as a student of art. This sketchbook is the journal of nature, the way he found it during the course of his journey. More than seventy years passed since then. Today the artist believes, ‘I do not draw what I see, I rather see whatever I draw.’  This sketchbook marks the pristine crack of dawn of his artistic career when he depicted in shades and strokes whatever he had found in the rhythm of nature. In fact this sketchbook does not only record the life of Ganesh Haloi as an artist but it is also regarded as an important treasure in the history of Bengal art.
