Reba Somnath. A path together… A path apart
One may find it difficult to comprehend the extent of depth of this exhibition, as happens generally, the viewer judges an exhibition on the basis of an array of seen or unseen artworks, done by a solo artist or two or a group. The copresence of these two artists primarily reminds us of the term ‘couple’ which does not carry any special significance, because our thought finds its fulfilment in the realization of how, by severing the the clasp of the term ‘matrimony’, two independent minds kept themselves engaged in an individual yet inseparable journey of shared moral value that appears as an important commentary of our cultural history.
Plenty of paintings are created each day, but the discovery of their language resonates with an eternal pathos. Reba and Somenath Hore not only created their paintings, but they also dedicated their lives to generating newer pictorial languages. But their lifestyle was far from being extravagant; they spent their life full of activity in search of a widespread vision.
This exhibition showcases the artistic creations of different phases of their lives. The portraits that they made of each other during the course of their journey called life are also included here. The presentation of those artworks finds its origin in the profound perception of Chandana Hore; without her active participation, Debovasha, abode of book and art, would never be able to arrange such an exhibition, which will remain a treasure to Debovasha forever.
