This one is the very first sketchbook of the artist. This may be considered a historical document in the realm of art. The sketchbook dates back to 1955. It was when the artist just got admitted in the Art College, today’s ‘Jo’ was then known as Jogendranath Choudhury. It marks the beginning of a journey, the sketchbook opens with a small note given by the artist- the note expresses the then realization of the artist who later turned into ‘Jo’, ‘Before I got enrolled in the Art College my drawing was quite weak. The sketches of this sketchbook bear its proof. But they gradually got improved within a span of fifteen days practice session because of my power of observation.’ This improvement may be noticed in the last few cases.
