পৃথিবী একবার পায় তাকে, বারেবারে পায় নাকো আর। শিল্পী-সাধক সোমনাথ হোরের কাজের সামনে এসে এমনই অনুভূতি হয়। এইসব ছবির সামনে এসে, ‘অপূর্ব’, ‘সুন্দর’ শব্দগুলি অর্থহীন ঠেকে, এদের সামনে হয়তো একটি শব্দই বাঙ্ময় হতে চায়, তা হল ‘অমোঘ’। রেখার মধ্য দিয়ে যখন রেখাকারের জীবন উদভাসিত হয়ে ওঠে অথবা এক জীবন থেকে যখন উদগত হয় রেখার জীবন তখন ওই ‘অমোঘ’ শব্দটিই উচ্চারিত হতে চায়। এই বইয়ের সূচনাপটে শিল্পীকন্যা চন্দনা হোরের ভূমিকা ধারণ করে রয়েছে শিল্পীর জীবন উত্তাপকে।

The book arrays a host of works belonging to different phases of life of Somnath Hore. Those line drawings came into existence during sixties, seventies and eighties. From the collection of Debovasha, they have been published in form of a book named ‘ When lines came from life’.’ The world experiences him once, and this experience never recurs.’ One senses a similar emotion while standing before the works of Somnath Hore, the artist sage. The terms like ‘unique’ or ‘ beautiful’ sound vain after perceiving those works, perhaps the singular word that may justify them is ‘ inevitable’. When the artist’s life finds its form in his lines or when a life creates the lines, then ‘inevitable’ is the word that one may utter. The foreword written by the artist’s daughter, Chandana Hore emits the warmth of the artist’s life.
