The way the life of Chandana Hore, a 1964 born is being revealed to her own self, similarly her artworks keep on searching for a language to express her life. During the course of this search, when the artist finds her refuge in this language and befriends the language in an eternal bond, then only she can say, ‘… at this age, getting up and sitting at my canvas seem like a celebration’. Truly, in between the continuous conflict of searching to securing refuge to her art and celebrating the mutual friendship Chandana lives her life.
Not only for creativity, proficiency is an important instrument to perform any activity, simultaneously, proficiency often leaves us defeated. Proficiency becomes alive only when its hunger gets appeased. But how does it get appeased?
When proficiency finds a structure, it expects an unfathomable connection, that means now, you get associated with me deep within in yourself, you evolve through me, you infuse life into me and from here, only conflict develops.
In most of the cases we cannot associate ourselves with proficiency. And proficiency becomes nothing but a lifeless instrument. We keep on launching it. But the instrument exerts enormous power. Thus it develops a world which mostly resembles the forlorn orchard of The ‘Selfish Giant’. But when something reverse takes place and the hunger of proficiency gets satisfied, then the pulse is felt, and the home is materialised:
“Ah, We with you, my love, I play the game of life
My heart is so restless today, will
it accept defeat in this game?”
“Will you just like this?
Colour me. And then run away’
Do willingly yield to me, my Lord.
And take the colour of my love to
your heart;
May the red pollen of this heart- lotus
Paint yourself flowing robes.”
When the artist engages herself in a spontaneous conversation, then only the voice of life resonates. Otherwise it remains the orchard of the ‘Selfish Giant’. As Chandana Hore continues a significant conversation with proficiency spontaneously, her paintings render us overwhelmed with a divine bliss. We may encounter a significant pictorial language. From the very first day she started to muse her own life taking along her immediate ambience and the world at large. More void she faces, more she renounces excesses, and gradually she achieves the art of brevity. Her own emptiness has been filled up with the blaze of hues. Her ‘untold words’ flare up through her paintings. MF Hussain, the visionary artist, advised her to explore oil painting. While facing her works in oil we come to realise that she touches the spirit of her art while developing her own life. Through the weight of oil paints Chandana keeps on engraving her own physical volume. That means the volume of both the colours and the artist mingles into one. By applying the flat patches of red, yellow and blue intensely she embraces the world through her painting. Now, power and courage become her sibling, her companion of day and night. Only someone with no expectation may come across something so improbable.
